Fellow Franciscans, The
dust has settled on our EFA (1998) Charity Carnival & Bazaar 2009.
Something new has come up for members and we are keen to let you know about
it. Before
I do so, our report on the Charity Carnival & Bazaar 2009 - I
am happy to inform all members that despite the short space of time from the
date of permit approval on 20.1.2009 to the event on 8.3.2009, gross coupon
sales was RM83,394-00. This is a
period of 6 weeks. There
is no doubt that we couldn’t have done this without the support of members
and the Secondary School Principal, ex-franciscan Mrs. Pang Shat Muai, her
teachers and staff. Also, the students of the Secondary School put their
hearts in the project and it was a resounding success. Please look through EFA Carnival on
Facebook for more photos. In
conjunction with this Project, we took the opportunity to give potential
donors the option to donate directly to the tax-exempt account the Secondary
School Building Committee had set up especially for the Secondary School
Building Fund. I am happy to report
that RM5,800-00 was donated directly to this account. So
you might want to know the net proceeds we have raised for the Secondary
School Building Fund. Well, our main
expense was 30% to be paid back to the booth-operators. Booth operators were the school and EFA
members. The following participated:- Class
of 1975 Class
of 1979 Class
of 1980 Class
of 1981 Class
of 1982 Class
of 1983 Class
of 1985 Class
of 1986 Class
of 1989 Class
of 1990 Class
of 1991 Class
of 2008 The
total pay-out to the booth-operators at the end of the day was
RM19,120-00. This is less than 30% of
the gross coupon sales of RM83,394-00 not only because some coupons were not
redeemed but some of our members who operated booths gave 100% of the sales
back to the Project. After
incidentals of about RM3,500, our net proceeds from this Project was
RM60,754.60. This was handed over to
the Board of Management on 22.5.2009. Prior
to the Carnival – Mrs. Pang Shat Muai (Class of 1976), Ms Felicity Ng (Class
of 1985) and Ms Anna Liew (Class of 1986) ~ Principal and teachers of the
Secondary School all became Life Members.
This made working with the School very nice indeed. On
the day of the Carnival, we were happy to receive 3 Life memberships from
Alice Yap Kim Henn (Class of 1982), Surilla Stimol (Class of 1984) and Regina
Sulit (Class of 1985). After the
Carnival more Life Memberships applications came from Beverly Joeman (Class
of 1986), Ms Patricia Sinidol (Class of 1967) and Ms Peggy Lim Class of
1967). On
Carnival day, we also received 15 new ordinary memberships – you will see all
their names on our membership list. So,
we at the ex-co and the organizing committee of this Project thank you very
much for your great support! It was a fantastic event. EFA & SPArKS Datuk Adeline Leong of
Sabah Performing Arts Kota Kinabalu Sabah (SPArKS) is organising a French
Film Festival in KK on 27 - 29 June 2009. Basically they plan to show 3
french films at GSC, 1Borneo, Kota Kinabalu for the 3 nights. The movies are entitled ’Changement d’adresse’ [Change of
Address], ‘Le Couperet’ [The Axe]
and ‘Les Soeurs fachees’ [Me and my
sister]. The movies will have English
sub-titles. SPArKS has secured 100%
sponsorship for the whole event and has asked whether we can play a role in
selling the tickets to draw as many people as possible to this event. In return, EFA will get all the proceeds of
sale of the tickets. We thought it would be a
good opportunity to tie-up with another Organisation and introduce something
new to members and their friends.
Tickets are on sale at RM35 per ticket from any of our ex-co
members. We will put up information
about the movies so you can choose which movie you would like to see. The proceeds of sale from this
activity will go towards the Primary School Gown Project as well as
Association expenses. Until we meet again,
Feona Jinu President
